ALONE
Gargantuan waves
knock me off my feet—
sweep me out to sea.
Without you,
I no longer can breathe
in a sphere of aloneness
I never knew existed.
I will not survive
without the balm
of your presence.
You, lovely as a still life,
a living song I no longer hear.
An octopus entangles my legs
and drags me along
over luminescent banding
in massive coral skeletons—
their phosphorescence
lights the way to the eternal darkness.
