NEIGHBOR

The day after we moved

Into our new house

We found 88 painted

On our front door.

Our heinous neighbor,

An ersatz of a human

Has the endurance

Of a German cockroach.

Under the cover of darkness,

She spreads poison ivy

Into our garden.

Wearing an old housedress

And bedroom slippers,

With her hair in curlers,

She confronts us,

Blowing smoke rings

In our faces.

She hisses like a feral cat”

“Hitler should have killed all of you!”

Is that what the banality

Of evil looks like?”
